What does a consultation cost?
Nothing. The first conversation is free and confidential, and there is no obligation to hire the firm afterward.
Who will actually handle my case?
One attorney. This is a sole practitioner's firm, so the lawyer who evaluates your case is the same lawyer who negotiates it and appears in court on it. You get a direct line.
How often will I hear from you?
At least once a month, whether or not something has changed. If a case is quiet, you will be told it is quiet and why. You should never have to wonder what is happening with your own matter.
Will you take my case to trial?
Cases here are prepared to be tried. Most matters resolve before trial, and that is usually in a client's interest, but a file that has been built for trial resolves on better terms than one that has not. No lawyer can promise a particular outcome, and none should.
Who are the "Sons"? How many lawyers work here?
One. Sipora was the founding attorney's mother's Hebrew name, and she had three sons, only one of whom is a lawyer. The name is a family name, not a count of the lawyers on staff. There are no partners and no associates.
Is Sipora & Sons a separate firm from The Masjedian Law Firm?
No. Sipora & Sons and The Masjedian Law Firm are two names for the same solo law practice. The same attorney handles every matter under either name, and every engagement agreement is with that attorney's practice.
Do I owe anything if I do not win?
On contingency-fee matters, no attorney's fee is charged unless a recovery is obtained. Whether you would be responsible for case costs if there is no recovery is set out in the written fee agreement, and it is discussed with you before you sign anything.
How long do I have to bring a claim?
It depends on the type of claim and who the defendant is. Some deadlines in California are as short as six months. Because a missed deadline usually ends a case permanently, it is worth asking early rather than waiting.
